Brighton

Brighton

My name is Brighton Hathaway (I don’t have a DJ name) and I love many things. As well as being a dancer, I like to sing, spend time with my family, and be outside when I can. I like DJ-ing because I can play music that I like, and I want other people to be able to listen to that music. KDNK has a wide music selection, and I love browsing through the the CD’s and finding new music that I might want to play during my show. I like 70’s light rock, and pop. I always give a shout out to someone important in my life, even if they are not listening. I love DJ-ing!

DJ-Finno

DJ-Finno

Guten Tag – My name is DJ-Finno. I am 12 years old and have been a DJ for three and a half years. I go to school at Liberty Classical Academy in New Castle. I like being a DJ because it helps me with my enunciation of words, and I like to play music, like bluegrass and jazz. Even though I have lived in Colorado for over 10 years – and I want to stay here on my own ranch someday – I was born in Germany. Hope you enjoy the shows!

Esther

Esther

Hi, my name is Esther and I do my radio shows with my sister, Liliana and her little sister, Erika. When I am on the radio show I like to play lots of Mexican music because it makes me proud of my culture and heritage. I am a sophomore at Basalt High School and I have been doing a radio show for 4 years now. I am also a dancer with Aspen Santa Fe Folklorico and I love doing anything that puts me on a stage (like acting). AZYEP has been such a great opportunity it has helped me find my voice and become more and more confident in speaking Spanish to a crowd and even though you guys don’t see me or my girls when you guys listen to us playing music, just know that we are either dancing our butts off or singing our lungs out. 🙂

Frenna

Frenna

Greetings, audience! My name is Frenna. You may know me from the shows I’ve done where I introduce myself. (This is going great, hang in there!) I’m 13 years old and go to GSMS. I think I may or may not have been a DJ for KDNK for about 6-7 months (not sure but yeah I think that’s about right). My favorite genre of music is rock, although I’m very open-minded and would probably enjoy anything you put in front of me. Maybe not nursery rhymes though. (Maybe.) I enjoy being exposed to new music, and meeting some of the other DJs(even though that hasn’t really happened yet but it’s okay baby steps, people, baby steps)! :))))) . Other interesting things? Hmm… Well, I ate some grass in 6th grade and it tasted like chemicals and turned my tongue green for two days. That’s not interesting, that’s pesticide. Okay umm well I like to draw? No, that’s not interesting either… I’ve been to the moon. (Now I’m just lying- we’re done! Let’s wrap it up!)

Helen

Helen

Hello, my name is Helen (DJ Super H).  I’ve been a DJ for about a year.  I love gymnastics and biking!  I like to travel a lot with my family!  I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and now I live in Carbondale.  I listen to Rock and Pop music.  I like DJing because it makes me feel like I can put myself out there!

Maija

Maija (DJ Sunshine)

My name is Maija, I am 17 and a student at Glenwood Springs High School. I have been a DJ for almost 4 years. My favorite genre is rock/folk, though I find myself playing a lot of Reggae and World Music (especially Latin American Music) on my shows. At home I usually listen to Hip Hop, but when I study I usually listen to traditional Andean Music. I love being part of AZYEP because it has given me a place to discover my voice and to connect with amazing people who are always there to encourage me (Beth and Stacy I am talking about you). As well as new friends who are passionate about music and the community. I feel very blessed to have been in the Mentor Program and work with younger DJs as well as to being able to design my own Public Affairs shows and speak on issues I feel passionate about. This program has given me so much in my life, and as I am starting to write my college essays, I’ve been finding myself bringing up the program. AZYEP has truly shaped who I am and I can’t imagine my life without it.

Maisie

Maisie

I am 11 years old and I go to GSMS (Glenwood Springs Middle School). I have not been DJing for very long, but my favorite genre of music is today’s hits or stuff from Prince and David Bowie. I play new music and stuff from popular hits a long time ago. I like KDNK because it lets you be yourself and you can speak on the radio and play music. I also like how it is expanded throughout the valley. I like to be on the radio. I think it is very cool and fun and I like that you can sometimes bring a friend. Me and My friend Mykel do a show together and we really enjoy it!

Rachel J.

Rachel

Hey, my little wolf pups. My name is Rachel ( DJ Wolfy) and I’m a sophomore at Basalt High School. I love getting involved in my community. I love games of any kind and I am obsessed with animals especially wolves. I play the ukulele, and I even play live on the radio. I love pop music the most, but I can sing along to any music. I love Dj-ing so much cause of the people I’m around and the fun stuff I get to do for you. I’ve been with AZYEP for 5 years now. Oh, I also love to be in any kind of production (choir/ Band concerts, and Acting jobs). I also do Taekwondo, student council, gaming club, choir, and may possibly start a Ukulele Club soon. You will also hear my (horrible) Spanish on the radio. Even though technically you know who I am I love the mystery of not having to be anyone but myself. So please call in because I  love to know you guys are listening to what your thoughts are and also I need suggestions for what new song to learn to play on the uke. On my shows you will hear a lot of beach boys, Adele, and even Los Lobos (they do a lot of Disney stuff like Cruella Devil). Like I said before you will hear my ukulele ( if it’s bad, I’m sorry but blame it on Paige my radio instructor 😉 )

Sofie

Hey I’m Sofie (DJ carrot-cake) and I’m 11 years old. I have red hair and a pet rat named Slinky-Minky. I like to listen to a mix of music, but I like older songs and newer songs (I guess thats how you explain it?). I go to Ross Montessori school and I love to read and draw. I started my DJ career when I was doing a little report for school and I got interviewed on the radio, next thing I know, I’m playin’ some jams! I like to go on the radio because I love music and it creates an opportunity to try something new. Maybe you’ll hear me on the radio sometime!

Willow

Willow

My name is Willow and I am 14 years old.  I attend Two Rivers Community School in Glenwood Springs.  I’ve been a DJ at KDNK for 2 years.  I enjoy Alternative/Indie Rock, Contemporary R&B, and Alternative Hip Hop.

What I like most about being at the station is being alone in the on-air studio listening and discovering music. The speakers are loud sometimes but it’s in some way one of the quietest places I spend my time. I also have friends at the station who I like to connect with through music.
